KZ750 Cylinder Head Flanged Bolts was created by JRohrer
I had one of the center two cylinder head bolts brake on me.(NOT one of the Studs) To me they look like some type of stretch bolt that you would see on a car or truck head. Can someone tell me if they are a stretch bolt or if any bolt in that size would do in that area?

Any bolt or stud would be fine. 99% of all motorcycles (that I'm aware of) don't have bolts like that and they get by just fine with straight shank bolts.

If the torque specs say something like XX Ft Lbs + XX degrees, that's a torque to yield bolt, and one time use.
If there are no degrees in the torque spec, then it's not a torque to yield.

Good point! "Steell" i didn't think about that. Looks like ill be getting the bike back together sooner than expected!

I would use high quality (not Home Depot) bolts. These folks have a very good selection in different grades. Ed

I have a great ACE Hardware that has a good selection of metric 10.9 so hopefully i can find them there. Sometimes i can get lucky and find stuff at Lowes in their metric bins Just don't bother asking for help finding them.

Ace Hardware is an excellent place to source metric bolts, screws, nuts and washers. While their hardened stock is somewhat limited, I have been able to find some of the bolts I needed there.
Fastenal does not stock them, but can usually order them for you, if you are fortunate to have one near you.

Do it the right way, and just order two new bolts from Kawasaki.

They designed the motor, and for some reason they want that type of bolt there.

If my memory serves me correct, thats the two bolts that are located in the middle of the head at the front and back of the area where the cam chain comes up from the crank???

Their torque is not the same as the other cylinder head studs. Its only a 8mm size bolt.

So i tried to do it right :( Just got home from a short vacation and the new bolts came in the mail. checked the torque value in my manual that listed cylinder head bolt's at 22ftlbs . And this time the rear bolt broke. I have looked up the rated torque for a 10.9 8mm bolt and the max is 24 ft lbs. so the 22 that is listed in the manual seems right. I'm confused to say the least unless the bolts are of a lesser material. Anyone have a different value in a different book by chance or ran into this problem before? I have seen this value in both the service manual and Clymer. Well ill off to remove the head again and pray that i can extract this bolt with ease. I'm glad i ordered an extra bolt just in case this happened again.

Any ideas would be very helpful

After removing what was left of the old bolt it seems that the bolts are bottoming out and then snapping. Why would this be happening? The head gasket that i removed seems to be the same thickness as this one.
I'm to the point to where i might be installing washers under the center bolts just to keep them from bottoming out but still allowing plenty of thread bite. I would just have to make sure i don't drop a washer into the crank case.
