Oil filter inner cover was created by Bozo
I've just noticed there is a pressed metal cover that sits on the oil filter internally. I remember having one many years ago but lately (6years ago at least) it has been missing. My question is does it do anything (if so what) and does it have to be fitted?.

First Permanent ride the Z1R since Dec1977 (220,000km) as of June 2015
Second permanent bike 1989 FJ1200 dyno'd 140RWH, great bike.
Third ride is now the Frankenstein 1981 GPZ1100B1, 1983 fully recon motor fitted LOVE THIS BIKE
Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as FJ above)

Yes, some bikes had it some didn't. It may help keep some amount of oil around the filter. I use it to hold some oil in the filter before installing it, just to get oil in the system faster after a filter change.

Thanks for your replies, apparently the Z900 has it listed in the parts list but the Z1R does not, so I guess I'll leave it out.
