Starter Motor Clutch kz750 1980 was created by Sharpe
Hi,
I'm having what seems to be a fairly common problem with the starter motor clutch assembly, when starting the engine it would engage very briefly then sound like a pneumatic drill. I took the assembly out and one of the spring was jammed in the resess in the one way assembly, the assembly wasn't cracked how i'd imagined but there was a bit of ware there. Is it worth just replacing the one way assembly or is that one jammed spring enough to stop the thing working. I can't seem to find anywhere i can get a new assembly so if its just a case of a 3 quid spring id be a happy man. Any info would be much appreciated. Cheers

Welcome aboard! Please identify your bike's specific model (adding it to the signature line is the best way). In 1980 Kawasaki made 3 different KZ750 models. They do not all use the same starter clutch parts, so it is important to know which model you have when trying to solve the problem. Ed

Thanks Ed, sorry I forgot to mention that bit, its a four an E model. I'll get a picture of it on here within the next few days as it currently stands, its not looking to healthy at the moment though. Do you know where i could get hold of a starter motor clutch assembly from?
Many thanks

I bought Part #13193-1062 (CLUTCH-ASSY-ONEWAY) and it came with the springs, pins, and rollers along with the big piece marked #3 (parts marked #3, 4, 5, & 6 in red) . Kawasaki lists it as an "Active" part so any online or local dealer can order it for you. Ronayers.com lists it at $83.93. See www.ronayers.com/Search.aspx?k=13193-1062

The part marked #18 in green also wears (see image down below for comparison of new and used ones). I would recommend replacing it while you have things pulled apart. Ronayers.com lists it at $43.94. See www.ronayers.com/Search.aspx?k=12046-1032 Ed

What 650ed posted is definitely the way to go. I did mine a few years ago and did not replace #3 and now I have to dive in again. No fun...
