KZ1000 Sprocket Oil seal
15 Apr 2014 12:22
I am having trouble installing the front sprocket oil seal. I can install it into the cover but then i cannot push it onto the collar on the sprocket axle. I figure i have to slide the collar onto the axle in thr end, but the collar wont come loose. Any tips or tricks?

once the trans cover is off. The collar should slide off the shaft. There should also be a o ring between the collar and the bearing edge. to install you just install the oring then the collar then put the cover back on. To get it unstuck maybe try tapping lightly with a hammer or lightly pry on it. Ive never had one stick on me.

I already tried to tap it with a rubber mallet, also used a small flathead screwdriver and tried to put it between the collar and the bearing and tied to tap slightly with the mallet. i will try some more tomorrow, just wanted to check that his is actually meant to come loose. Maybe some WD40 will loosen things up (I'll keep it away from the bearings)?

yep that collar should slide right off. Just be careful of the oring behind that collar there or youll ruin it.

Looking at the eploded parts diagram of the 1983 KZ1000R2 there is no o-ring there?
www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Kawasaki/...NSMISSION/parts.html
I still cannot get it loose. I have been spraying that sucker with WD-40 since last night and using a small flathead trying to pry it out. I can see the collar moving slightly, but together with the sprocket gear. It seems to be stuck on the sprocket gear in a way.
F%&!!! Do I have to start getting violent or will I break something?

Your right, I didn't realize they quit putting them in there. Non J model motors have them there tho.

Ka-ching!! :woohoo:
I've been prying like mad and couldn't get the sucker loose. In desperate needs of solving the problem I came to think of the saying: "sometimes simpler is better". I put the seal in the cover, flush with the back wall and put it over the collar by using a small screwdriver lifting the lips of the seal onto the collar. Worked like a charm
I guess somethimes the simpler solution is better? No need to install the collar last...
