Valve Cover Vent Size?
08 Apr 2014 17:35
I want to put a NPT to AN fitting in valve cover and vent it to kick block off plate.
My question to the forum, should it be 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2 hose?
I was considering 6-AN fittings with 3/8 stainless braded line.
Anyone gone down this path?
Thanks

The bigger the breather the better really but obviously a big block motor would benefit from breathers larger than say those needed for a std one.
Breathers need to vent to atmosphere though, not to another part of the engine.

Of course, it's a completely different animal, but I have a 1 1/4" breather hose on my flattracker. It needs to flow over 1300cc of air on every revolution. :woohoo:

Don't be ridiculous! It's only a flesh wound!

I agree with Zed on this. Going from the valve cover to the kicker area isn't venting the crankcase as it's all the same cavity. I'm thinking of running at least -8 hose from the stock breather and maybe a -10 or -12 from the kicker plate on my 900 when I get to that point.

If you have a emission style valve cover like I do, you can remove the reed valves and drill holes in the valve cover inside the emission plates and run a hose from them to vent to atmosphere.
