Hello this is my first post and it's really for my dad, he's had his 550 ltd since 1979 and when I was born in 93 he stopped riding and put the bike into storage. He's tried a few times to get it running but just last year I made him dig into it and clean tarnish out of the carbs. They're probably way off but it's not getting spark for some reason either, one coil tested bad on it but we have no clue where to get one as these don't seem to be very common old bikes. Aside from that, what else do we need to do to get this in running shape, it's in really beautiful condition for a 34 year old bike.

www.z1enterprizes.com carries parts for these old kaws. You may want to consider switching to a Dyna S ignition. It replaces the points.

I think your bike is a 1980 Kz550C1. I thought that bike comes with electronic ignition, which, if working, is better than a Dyna S, especially since I think you should also have a single-phase charging system. Later years had 3-phase (and it's not too hard to convert, if necessary).

In my signature are several manuals for that bike, You should download all of them.

Also, read the valve train warning before removing the valve cover.

Coils are not too hard to get. You can use 3-ohm, green, Dyna coils or 3-ohm Accel supercoils, but the 2.2-ohm, gray, Dyna coils are probably best suited for the factory electronic ignition. You can probably use used coils from any KZ550 or ZX550.

Your signature is very helpful, pretty much everything I need to know is in there. I'm very mechanically inclined and used to working on cars but motorcycles are a bit different.
