Greetings all!
My name's Jack
and I live in the back. Well some of you may rmember the song. I live in Mackay in north-eastern Australia. I've been riding bikes since 1976, and with a licence since 1981, so I'm not a youngster.
My current rides are a 2003 Honda Transalp 650, that I bought new in '04; a 2006 Hyosung GT250R, that my son-in-law gave me last year after I spent about $600 and quite a few hours repairing and bringing back to life after 14 months in storage, and the reason for my visit here; my 1977/1982 Kawasaki KZ750 Twin.
This bike had sat for 15years before I bought it in late 2009. I have put an effort into finishing it off over the last 10 months since finding out the previous owner has cancer again He saw the photos last week but is now in a coma and won't live to see it run.

Can anyone tell me the process for getting the "reductor" magnetic pickup for the Dyna-S ignition timed properly? It is pointing so far away from the pick-up on the timing plate that it has no chance of doing it's job.

Hi Jack.
Sorry to hear about the previous owner. Hope he was glad to know you are working on it.

I assume you wrote Kz650 Dyna S fitted to Kz750 Twin. If you edit the thread topic, and drop "new to the forum", to fit in the "Kz750 twin" part, you might get more responses from the 750 twin guys.

Anyway, I assume you know the Dyna S has two pickups, but you only need one for the twin. Because it wasn't meant fo the 750 twin, you might have to drill new holes in the plate to get it to the correct rotation.

I assume you are using the 750 twin's point advancer. You can't use one from an inline-four because the cranks spin the opposite directions. You have to use an advancer from a twin (400/440/750).

I'm not familiar with the twin markings, but if it is like the inline-fours, you set it up so the magnet in the rotor is just approaching one of the pickups when the "F" mark on the advancer is lined up with the pointer which is cast into the crankcase.

Great looking paint and seat, by the way. Reminds me of some of the dirt bikes.

I had a '98/'99 KLR 650 and that's where the colour scheme came from. I worked out a few hours ago that the 4s spin clockwise and the twins spin anti-clockwise. This was the end result that passed the Dyna-S static timing test:

The connected pick-up had to be rotated anti-clockwise through 90deg
