I want to wrap the header on my kz 1000 but the videos I've watched show them smoking after awhile. Are they safe for longer rides?

They look cool but will eventually destroy your headers. If you decide to do it anyway smoking at first is normal. I cleaned mine up and painted them with header paint first to protect them against rust. I believe Eastwood has a header paint with a long hose that allows you to get the inside of the header with some ceramic paint.

The thing that sucks about the header tape is that it is hard to clean. absolutely do not use a power washer on them. It is best to have a helper when wrapping them. Harbor Freight sells the stainless steel "zip ties" you will need for cheaper than the auto supply store.

This is the only pic I could find of mine with the headers wrapped

Good luck

I wrapped the head pipes on my Z1 because the pipes already looked like garbage. It will smoke for a little while and smell for a while longer, then settle down and behave. It looks much better than rust and dents and helps to cool the engine.
