79 KZ 1000 ltd exhaust?
05 Mar 2014 20:13 - 05 Mar 2014 20:20
Hey everyone,
I got an all stock 1979 Kawasaki KZ 1000 LTD, everything is stock, but just wondering what would be a awesome, loud, throaty well I could go on for a while, but I'm looking for a good sounding exhaust system, something loud when you open the throttle. Any good suggestions?

You can't beat a Kerker for the sound. I think they make more than one baffle. I like the competition baffle.

Don't get rid of the stock exhaust...it will greatly enhance the resale value of your LTD, when it comes time to sell (and it will come). AND I emphasize, it you get the inkling to move to pods...DON'T get rid of your stock airbox...you'll likely not find another for less than $300.00

Great looking bike!
Ya, it scares people here when you start talking about changing parts on such an original bike. Just be sure to keep everything you take off.....like McDroid said it will greatly enhance the value of the bike. Especially the exhaust. Also definitely yes, keep that airbox if you switch to pods because it wont be long and you'll want to switch back.
I like the sound of the original LTD exhaust on mine. Its got a great sound when you get on it. Sounds like a Ferrari 308 to me. But maybe I'm just dreaming.
I see your catch pan under there....is the tach cable leaking where it goes into the motor?

Ohhhh don't worry, I'm not getting rid of anything on the bike, I just want a loud exhaust system, I was looking at the Vance & Hines exhaust system, I don't know what the procedure is for swapping out the old (practically new) exhaust system from 79. But on youtube there's a green kawasaki drag bike, with the Vance & Hines exhaust, sounds freakin amazing. I want mine to sound like that. And no just it's been sitting so long, it leaks a bit of oil out, not anything to worry about tho.
Thanks guys

I can't remember if V & H has a exhaust for the street but the ones for the track would be a terrible choice. You have to modify for the brake lever and you will have trouble turning right.
