Hoping to do some buffing on the comfy couch vs on cold garage floor...am trying to remove "dynamo cover" (left side, in front of sprocket or "mission" cover) FSM just says to remove 4 bolts...check! Stuck on there pretty darn good, nary a wiggle..should I get medieval on it? Any suggestions? About ready to just do polishing on the floor...do not want to crack cover...thanx, all!

Do not remove it at all. Put the bolts back in and polish it still on the bike. It is more than just a cover. It has the stator bolted to it on the inside, and that of course is wired to the bike. So removing that "cover" is opening a can of worms that you don't need to open just to polish it. If you decide to remove it you will spend more time in the garage fiddling with getting it and the associated wiring off, or removing the stator from the cover and then re-assembling everything than it would take just to polish the cover while still on the bike. No, don't go medieval on it, you risk damaging the stator. The cover is located with two dowel pins, they may be what's causing the binding.

Use a piece of wood as a drift and ligthly tap around the cover close to the mating surface to break it free.
Once the cover is free it should be pulled out as straight as possible - the magnetism of the alternator rotor will cause some drag as the stator is fixed to the cover.

After you remove the bolts the cover is often held in place by the magnets inside that metal cover. I usually tap it with a rubber mallet or similar. That and it might be stuck on the gasket. So usually a couple of taps and it will brake loose. So tap just tap it and it will come loose then pull it away. You should not need to go animal on it.
