Yamaha SR250 Oil Plug?

I'm trying to change the oil on my 1980 SR250 but what I suspect is the oil drain plug is stripped to hell. I'm also confused as to which plug on the crank case is the oil plug.

Part #17 is what I am trying to take off.

But in this diagram part #11 is pretty close to the drain plug. Does anyone know if this will also drain the oil or what its primary purpose is?

Any experience of taking off a stripped drain plug?

You have to remove #17. #11 is most likely a stop screw for something.
To remove the stripped plug, try using something like vice grips. Once you get a small gap, a thin flat head screwdriver should help..

I've tried the vice grips and it just made it worse. The bolt is made of soft metal and not hardened steel so it mars very easily.

Has anyone used an easy out on a motor cycle? I'm trying to figure out a way to get clearance under the bike with a drill.

Perhaps I misunderstood what you mean by stripped. Are the threads stripped or is the bolt head rounded off?
If it is rounded off, find a socket of slightly smaller size and beat it on with a hammer.

Its rounded off. I just discovered about extractor bolts but they are extremely expensive. Ill give that a go, getting clearance to get a good strike on the socket will be challenging.

Craftsman makes a socket set just for this situation if you know the size of bolt head.

Just spent the day trying to get this damned thing off. Tried a cut off wheel and an impact driver and it punctured the drain plug(which is about 2.5" in dia) so its leaking from the center. Put on the next smallest socket and hammered it on and rounded it off again. Found the craftsman bolt off and........
stripped the crap out of it!

Ideas as to how to get this thing off? I'm thinking the previous owner put lock tite on it it. (I've had several problems with their jimmy rigging/sketchyness.)

I think I'll end up cutting it off with a cut off wheel on the dremel, if no one has any other ideas.

Just weld a metal bar to it and unscrew it. Why cut it all up?? Ed

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationIts not metal. I just tried to put a magnet on it and it didn't do a thing. My roommate did just get a wire feed welder. Can you weld steel to aluminium? I don't either of us are very good at welding. I feel like I would just burn a hole through it. Here's what it looks like to give you an idea.

Sorry, I'm used to Kawasaki steel drain plugs. Unfortunately, as far as I know you can't weld steel to aluminum. If yours has those ribs around the edge like the one in the eBay listing you may be able to hold a metal bar against a rib and unscrew the plug by tapping against the rib in a circle using a hammer.
