Hello, please allow me to introduce myself. I am new here and in a state of cabin fever induced psychosis I decided to get a project bike. I may have bitten off a wee bi more than I could chew with this project but I picked her up for $280, no key, didn't start, barely rolled, and I have no garage. So I drove about 12hrs, bought the bike and installed it in my bedroom where the tear down began and continues. The eventual idea is to get the entire thing disassembled, powder coat the frame black, change the colour to dark orange, clean up everything, and get her back to working order for summer. Without further ado here is the bike in the current state.

Comments are welcome.

Welcome aboard! I'd be putting that fuel tank outside if there's any fuel left in it. If the petcock lets fuel seep out (it happens) you could end up with a fire. Draining the carbs might also be a good idea. Also, check out the info in the link below. It may save you some major headaches when working on your bike. Ed

Thanks mate, the post you linked to was quite helpful. Also, the gas tank is drained and there is no fuel leaking out. Checked it everyday for a week after it was taken off. my current problem is how to get the swing arm detached. The bolt is being quite sticky.

Soak it with Kroil for a couple days; that should loosen it up. I have used it on several very stubborn fasteners and was amazed at how effective it is. Ed

If you don't have any Kroil, LiquidWrench penetrating spray lubricant is probably the next best thing. I've had good luck with it.

Dude...Seriously...We all love our first bike....Mine is the same thing. I dropped over $5K into it.And it's still only worth a Grand. These 750LTD's in low mileage great shape trade all day for $800-1200 on fleabay.Just know what you are throwing $$$ at.It's not a Mark II,not an H-2,not an ELR.What you want to put your money towards is safety and reliability.Suspension,tires,brakes,starting/charging,fuel & exhaust systems. As the saying goes:"If your object of desire has Tits,Tails or Tires,it's going to cost you money and heartache".

This is not my first bike, this is my first project. I am not planning on plowing big $$ into this bike. The powder coating of the frame and tank will cost about 300 total. The rest is going to get cleaned up. The hand controls are seized so I am getting some new ones. I have no delusions about the worth of this bike.

Sorry...Didn't mean to be a jerk.Best suggestion is to have a realistic budget, and go front to back with repair/replacement of parts. As for the swingarm bolt, get a friend and vice-grips to grab a-hold of the bolt-head end,and tap on the threaded end-with the nut on-with a punch and hammer. Have the friend twist it around while you are tapping on it.This should tap it thru. There should be a grease fitting on the swing-arm. If not, consider installing one. Fairly simple, with long term positive results.

No worries mate. I should clarify, I am not having problems removing the bolt I can't get the nut undone.

Yup. That's where Kroil can help. Ed
