Idle Problem was created by grumpy56
Have a 1982 KZ1000J, stock pipes, carbs, and air box. The bike would not idle when cold/warm so I raised the idle to 1000 RPM. However, when hot, it goes up to 1400 RPM (or so). All of this is with the enrichener/choke "off". Any suggestions? Thanks.

Update.....Fired it up just now and will not idle (cold/warm) without the choke on....It's like I never raised the idle speed previously.....

Fresh fuel? Recent carb work done? Daily rider?

Fuel less than 2 weeks old. Nope, short rides on the weekends only. Rebuilt carbs 5 years ago and they have been great (until now). Adjusted valves about 300 miles ago (one tight one). 14K miles. Fires up immediately when cold, but can crank quite a while, especially when warm. Thanks.

Problem started after valve adjustment...could be carbs are out of synch. I'd be all-over those carbs, and verifying correct bowl-fuel levels using the clear tube method.
Good luck!
