Front sprocket cover?? was created by bratbiker
So, I'm putting my drive line on my bike, and its been probably a year since I took it apart. I've put on the front sprocket, and it looks like something else bolts over it before the actual outer housing with the clutch cable. Can anyone confirm this, as I've looked through all of my parts and cannot seem to find anything? Or if someone had a parts diagram that shows this area? Or a picture?

Z1 and KZ900 came with a metal cover attached over the front (counter-shaft) sprocket.
The cover's purpose may have been (am guessing here) to help protect against road debris from getting between the chain and sprocket.
The cover is made of relatively thin metal, and easily damaged by drive chain issues.
Once damaged, the cover is often discarded and not replaced.
I don't know if the cover will fit later models such as KZ1000.
Here's a picture of the cover:
Good Fortune!

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI don't see an inner sprocket cover listed for the 1977 KZ1000-A1, but I believe it originally came with what was called a “sound arrester” – see parts labeled 13 & 14 in diagram. My understanding is that this consisted of some sort of acoustic pad (13) that was held in place by a perforated cover (14) that attached to the chain cover. The perforated cover can been seen in the eBay auction below. Ed
