Hey guys,
I have an '82 KZ440-D4 and I'm trying to find a replacement drive belt and I'm having some trouble. I went to Kawasaki's website and got a part number for the belt which is 59011-1009. The part is no longer active but I noticed it had a superseded part number of 59011-1003. I believe I found both parts online but the 1009 belt is around $300 where as the 1003 belt is only around $40. Am I safe going with the superseded part or do I need to spring for the new part number? And if so, is there anywhere I can find one for cheaper? I was trying to find specs on the 1003 belt to see if it had the same teeth and length but I could not locate any info.
Thanks for an help in advance!

I've requested a part availability check with an overseas supplier, and will notify you if they have one.
Otherwise, this may be an option: www.mcmaster.com/#timing-belts/=qhr8jg

There was a really good thread on here a couple months ago about the numbering system for drive belts and the 'universal' nature of toothed drive belts. It was buried in a thread about damaging belts with rocks while driving, IIRC.

As you stated, both belts should be the same as one superseded the other (see Kawasaki.com chart below). The list price for both 59011-1009 and 59011-1003, when they were available, was the same - $337. If I needed the belt and saw a new old stock one for $40 I would buy it (assuming it is not a used belt). The best I was able to find is a 59011-1009 belt for $202 at

Just throwing it out there... I'm pretty sure you can convert the 440 belt to chain drive.
