APE K410 cams for '83 KZ1000R2 engine was created by tommyboah
I am boring the engine og my '83 KZ1000R2 to 72mm and using a Wiseco piston kit with 10.25:1 compression. I am playing with the though of replacing the stock cams with APE K410 and also adding APE valve springs. I've read from another thread that the Wiseco 72mm and K410 are a good combo, but what do I need to do with regards to cam chain and cam sprockets? Can I use the stock setup?
Is there something other that I need to think through on this?
Thanks.

your stock hyvo chain is plenty strong enough .....all you need to do is get a set of 3 bolt cam to hyvo cam sprockets from ape...

I'm not sure you will have to clearance , maybe a bit ,if any on the head or cover for the lobes with a .410 lift . No HD cam chain for hyvo .....maybe replace with a new one.....

I need to cleareance the valve covers for the lobes with the K410, checked with APE. I've talked to a Kawa-man i Norway and he told me that I should not change the cams, as I will have trouble with regards to using it as a street bike. I think I will just port the head instead and keep the stock cams for now...

I wouldnt see any problems running 410 lift cams on the street. I run 418 lift cams on the street with no problem. The cams will change the power range. But they will make a increase in power espically with a ported head. i wouldnt see any problem running them.

that doesn't make sense, sounds like bad advice to me.
that bike will run like a bull with that setup.
what is stock lift on that bike?
