Base Gasket - Case to Bottom Of Cylinder was created by 4TheKZ1000
Hey Guys,

I just broke down my engine. I now need to remove the friggen welded gasket off the upper case half, and you know how that goes.

Question ******* Can I use a cooper gasket when I re- install the cylinder to the upper case?

Also, can I use a copper gasket at the upper cylinder to lower head ?

Thanks. Spencer

YES, to using copper base and head gaskets. you may get oil wee-page from the head gasket. :S Not really for street use . if you don't like oil leaks. I've used gasgacinch, copper kote, etc. to seal copper gaskets.. they all weep eventually........nothing drastic  I usually use a cometic graphite composition head gasket for street use  they won't leak ;)
I like copper base gaskets to set deck height available in .005 .010 .020....

Hylomar blue has been the best sealer I've found for the copper gaskets. Do a search for it.

I agree with Turboking.
I had both copper head and base gaskets but couldn't stop the weeping out of the front of the cam chain tunnel. Tried all the tricks in sealing it but no go. :S So I replaced it with the stock carbon gasket that comes with the wiseco 1327 kit. And also added a breather on top of the cam cover. one out of the oil filler and an extra one from the breather canister all into a double choc chip icecream container.
Like Sellys, no more leaks
It took a lot of different types of icecream containers to find the right one. :woohoo: :woohoo:
The old copper head gasket hangs off a nail on the wall and is now a home to a spider who catches flies for a living.

Well leaks are something that I cannot overlook or accept.

I will just use a wiseco gasket.

Any secrets to removing the gasket material without the case paint......lol

single edged razor blade and a couple of hours of scraping was what mine took.

You can use a scotch brite pad of the right grit that attaches to a drill. I think I used green. Of course, you would have to have used a plastic scraper, puddy knife or something to get the majority of the gasket first, then use the scotch brite on a drill along with WD40 to get the residue left.

I used a film of water proof grease (based on other people's experience here who say it makes it easy to take off when you go in again) on my base gasket and went try with the top Cyl/head gasket. I think I read where others have used copper spray to facilitate ease of removal down the road. This for the non-copper gaskets of course.

I will tell you that the carb dip in the gallon will soften that gasket up and it comes off somewhat easy. Cant use it, will take paint off case.
