HIGH IDLE ?
10 Jan 2014 20:09 - 10 Jan 2014 20:24
I wanted to ask the forum about my bike.
It wants to idle at 1100 rpm , If I try to reduce the idle, bike wants to stall..
Was wondering if my setup listed below is the reason? or do I need to look elsewhere?
Where are other built bikes idling at?
no air leaks
Thanks, Spencer

I don't know for sure; maybe someone with a KZ1000 manual will verify, but I think you'll find 1000 rpm to be normal idle speed. On my KZ650 the book says idle speed should be set to 950 - 1050 rpm. Ed

My bike idles at around 1300 or so I have a 1075 with k410 cams rs34 and all that jazz lol. I can't lower it or it does the same as yours. On a stock motor the manual says 900 to 1000 so I'm thinking it's the setup .

According to the books, my stock Z1 idles at 850 to 1000 RPM. The idle on my C14 is 1050 to 1150 RPM. I'm going to agree with crock 62 and say its your set up.

Most likely the carbs.
Those 34's are a little on the large side for 1105cc and will have too low air velocity in the venturi for smooth idling at 1000 rpm.
I bet fitting 30 / 31's would make a faster more responsive bike and better pick-up.

Mine was idling around 1000 when I got it. I put it up to about 1200 when it's warmed up, that's where I like it at. Mine has 28 pumpers on it and the throttle response is great.

Thanks, I finally found the spec in my manual buried in the back away from the carb section in a supplemental to the manual?
The manual wants the idle to be at 900 - 1050 rpm.
A friends bike will idle at about 850 but it has VM29 smoothbores on it. The bike has a nice pop and that delayed cam sound to it over mine.
I think ZED's comment made sense as to why the idle is higher or lower based on carb bore mm size. The bigger the opening the higher the rpm must be to actuate the idle circuit process of the carb or pilot system.
