kz police cases good enough? was created by tomsbadkz
I have a mint set of kz1000 cases from a 78C1 police model. They have the extra ribbing across the front like the MK2 cases. I am building my 1327cc 10.5 to 1 KZ1000 with the 83-84 GPZ1100 head worked by Larry Cavanaugh. I am gonna be running a 300 Avon rear tire. I wont be running a slick. Im using a nice welded falicon crank and a MRE backcut trans with billet 2nd gear. Are these cases gonna be ok or should I pursue a set of MK2 cases? appreciate the responses you guys have. thanks.

Im not aware of there being a differance in any of the kz1000 cases strength wise before the mkII motors came around in 79.
But that being said theres plenty of really fast dragbikes out there that have been running the non mkII cases and cranks for years without problems,i wouldnt worry too much myself.

like wireman says there is alot of people running regular cases. But me personally i like to overbuild everything. So i went with mk11 cases. You can tell mk11 cases cuz they will have extra ribbing in the front as well as a extra triangle gusset that runs down right behind the oil fill hole.

those cases are fine I have built some engines running 8.40s with 900 cases W/O issue the cases you have are late 78 cases with extra ribbing across the front just like MK2 I would not have issue with them in fact I prefer them they still have old style shift mech. in them with I like more so than the MK2 style that and the fact they are lighter weight anything on the street would be fine with early style cases its when you put slicks, lock up clutches and big power thats when cases become a issue.

when you say big power, you mean turbo, 1428cc, or nitrous?

The Mark II cases also have a trans cover like the J model cases.

Over 30 years with z1's, Currently down to only one 75, a j model dragbike, and 2 KZ1000 dragbikes.
