Non SR exhaust on a KZ650-SR was created by murquiza
I have a KX650-SR, it came with a Kerker exahust and pod air filters. I will take it back to factory specs and I will need to replace the exhaust with an OEM one and I'd like to know if the crossover headers have any real effect on the bike or the straight ones will do just fine.

I read that the timing was changed and thus the headers were crossed, finding a cross over exhaust in good shape/price is not easy.

As far as I know the crossover was just for the looks. I think if I remember right the SR was actually a couple HP down vs the standard 650 due to that exhaust system, so any KZ650 exhaust you can fit will work at least as well as the original crossover one. Of course a stock KZ650B or C system is pretty valuable if in good shape and will not look original on a SR and probably require fabrication to mount to some extent.

So it will not be a bolt on replacement from a A B or C to a D? I thought that the only difference would be the headers.

I went out and looked over the 2 systems side by side. It does look like either exhaust would work, but the mounting brackets are totally different, so if you get the KZ650B or C pipes you will need the hanger brackets that go with them to mount to a SR. Also of course if you get the SR exhaust you need the SR brackets. No way to combine parts. Also the B system is 4" longer in the back, so you will look different by 4" than using the original pipe.
