Are there locations for running jack bolts in to separate the cases or how do you go about splitting them ?

If you're asking questions like this, you really need to get a factory service manual.

I have a factory service manual. However I'm out of town working and don't carry my factory manual around with me. I was running some thought through my think tank and wanted to get a question answered. I'll wait to get home and go through my factory manual so I don't disturb anyone else at 0430.

I don't know about the older models, but on the 650/750 and J-model engines there are pry points. Use a great big flat screwdriver and lots of care...

There in the front of the motor. right in line with the rest of the bolts. They should be the only two that didnt have bolts in them. And on the other side of them there will be a little lip type deal you will see. There are two of them. Just make sure you have all the bolts removed.

Here's a link to download the FSM covering the J model:
"Pry points" are noted.
"Jack bolts" aren't mentioned.

www.kawiworld.com/images/stories/KZ1100man.pdf

Excerpt from page 44:

Z1 - KZ900 models also provide for jack bolts.
