1980 KZ 1000 Classic EFI Question
21 Nov 2013 04:57
I am working my way through the fuel system, cleaning it up after the bike has sat for a number of years. My question is about the fuel return nipple on the tank. The one I have seems to be "stuck". It looks like it should be spring loaded and open and close to help regulate fuel pressure, this is just a guess. Anyone know how this part works?
Thanks for the help!

Its a relief valve according to the parts diagram. Comes after the pressure regulator. I'm going to say it is basically a check valve so that the regulator works properly. Is it really stuck? It probably wont open til 30-40psi or more.

It is a one way valve. It does take a bit of pressure to get it to open. The pressure regulator is the canister on the other end of the fuel line that goes to the tank return that you have shown. cheers farmer.

When I took it out to check it I blew air in the nipple end from my compressor and not much happened. Very little air came out through the two holes. I soaked it in Marvels Mystery oil for a couple of days and tried it again, same results. I then tried to push it open with a small screw driver didn't budge. So, yes, I think its stuck but didn't know if it had a preset setting or if it was "supposed to" move. Your answers have helped out ALOT! Will try to find a different one,Thanks!

DO you think a "straight through" nipple would work if a replacement cant be found?
Thanks again.

No, it wouldn't build any fuel pressure then.

Yes a straight thru would work as it just a one way valve. The pressure regulator is the canister. You should be able to get the valve from REDLINE CYCLES .

Just seemed like to me if it after the regulator that it wouldn't let it make any pressure if you had a straight nipple there instead of the relief valve.

I have not forgot about you, I will be at my buddy's hours this week end, do you think it is to hold pressure in the fuel line so it doesn't have a long crank time for starting , it doesn't look like a fuel regulator if it is it not a very good one . Thanks Todd smith
