compression on pump gas? was created by JeepCJ
I am thinking of freshening up my Zephyr this winter. I wanted to do an 810 10.25 compression kit, and have the head milled .025.
Would I still be able to safely run pump gas (93 octane) with this setup? I know there are some other variable like ignition and such.
Just looking for ideas if this might work.
Thanks
bob

Yep, 93 will work ok.
why mill head that much......10.25 to 1 is fine. If you need gasket surface cleaned up, just knock off .006 inches.

the only reason I was going to mill the head, is because of what I have been reading on different sites, that to get the most of the 810 kit, you should mill the head.

I am running the same setup on my GPz. It does not knock on 93 octane, but does on 91 octane.

Thanks! seeing as you are riding a GPZ, I was also thinking of installing some 83-85 GPZ cams. I heard there is some differences in buckets and shim setup. Wonder how much work it would be to convert.

1983 GPZ cams are "drop in" and require nothing special over stock running gear with 30 tooth sprocket.

Some 83-85 GPz750 cams have a smaller base circle, 1.110" vs 1.01" (off the top of my head), so worst case you'd need shims 1.25mm thicker to close up the gap.
And the exhaust cam does not have a tach drive, so you'd need an electrical tach.
