Valve cover gasket
31 Oct 2013 06:09
Hey everyone I had a leaky valve cover gasket so I took it off scraped it and cleaned it up and just as I'm ready to put the new one back on by EMGO I notice a few holes do not line up. I looked and its for a 1980 KZ650B I have a 1980 KZ650E LTD. Are they that different? I bought the entire EMGO gasket package so does this mean all my other gaskets will be off as well? I tried flipping it rotating it every which way and it just does not line up. Any thoughts?

I'll take a pic of the package and how it lines up on my cylinder head tonight for some proof....at least I hope I'm not full of it! Thanks for the info. Z1 seems to have the gasket I need...just don't know why this kit I have from EMGO is wrong.

That 11009-1237 is subbed to 11009-1181 then to 11060-1537. That gaskit is still available from Kawa. But Kawasaki are on drugs for what they want for any gaskit today!!! Find a dealer that sells K&L Supply gaskits. Same quality as factory, just a lot cheaper.
11009-1065 is for the non air valve head KZ650. 1977/1978 model I think.
Personally I would not use anything Emgo made even on my lawnmower!!! Very low quality items.

It seems like you got a incorrect gasket.
Z-1 Enterprise rocks.....
They don't mess around and take parts and customer service very seriously.
Business is as professional as they come.
I talk to Chris at Ext # 117 but they are all good.

Haha good to know. I've never used Emgo before now. I just thought hey $56 for an entire engine gasket kit Sweet! I'll try to find that K&L brand gasket around here or online somewhere otherwise I'll just order from Z1.

10 to 1 Z1 Enterprises are selling K&L gaskets. They sell only the highest quality parts so my guess their gaskits are K&L!!!

Got one from them for my 78 KZ650 b-2 8 or 9 months ago and it was a K and L and it fit just right ...... has survived fine taking it off at 100 and 500 miles to check the valves. Maybe put a fine coat of grease on the valve cover so it will sick to the head and release at the valve cover.
I bought half of my gaskets off ebay using nos Kawasaki gaskets. Base, oil pan, all the o rings and then Z-1 for the cam chain rubber dampers, Liska and rubber cam chain guide and valve cover, head gasket was the one from the Wiseco kit.

While you are in there, might want to replace the rubber cam end plugs. Z1 should have those too!!!

One of the few things that I got from Z-1 that didn't work out. Got their K+L end plugs and they are a good sixteenth of a inch to short and the hole is quite a bit bigger than the stockers too. I then ordered nos plugs from Kawasaki and they were carbon copy's. I had to go back with the stockers and a little black silicone sealer.

Yea I was thinking about those too but I think I'll just reuse mine with some silicone as KZB2 mentions as mine are in pretty good shape and not dry rotted.
