1983 kz750k clutch question was created by heavychevy13
greetings from alabama! i'm new here and i hope ya'll can point me in the right direction on a couple of things. ok so i have an '83 kz750 twin, belt drive. i'm replacing the clutch springs and clutch friction plates and theres a couple things i'm unsure of. first, the new springs i ordered (off ebay) are slightly longer than the ones i pulled out, maybe 3~4 mm, but they are the same diameter and they fit in, ive bolted the pressure plate back on, everything seems right. will the slightly longer springs affect the clutch operation? i was thinking maybe the old ones just got compressed over time. second question, the rod coming out of the pressure plate that connects to the clutch lever gear, its really loose and moves back and forth, i can wiggle it all over the place, is it supposed to be like that? i was thinkin it tightens up when i put the cover back on and connect it back to the worm gear or whatever its called. again i'm just unsure, this is the first time i've attempted a clutch repair and i'd like to have everything right the first time and not have to take it back apart.

The old springs are prob compressed from use.

The new springs are the correct height.

Your factory manual will have the correct spring tension for new springs and a service limit to be replaced....if you don't have a manual.....you need to get one.

A KZ 1000 A-4 has a spring tension of 23.5 - 26.5 kg ........... anything under 21.5 kg needs to be replaced. I have taken mine to a NAPA that has a full machine shop to have measured for $5.00

That rod just floats in there and will slide right out. Make sure the little ball bearing is between the rod and the clutch pusher.
