slipping into neutral

Hey everyone.
I was riding around earlier on my kz550 in second gear and I went to give it throttle and it revved up and didn't accelerate. I looked down an the neutral light was on and I didn't downshift. Any ideas why?
Thanks

If your bike keeps doing this, it could be bent shift forks and a damaged 2nd gear.

You've been beating on the ol girl have ya? It's just a matter of time before it doesn't stay in second at all. I have done this to two bikes so far. I have ridden several that have had the same problem.
