Hey guys

I have an 81KZ750E. I am trying to replace the exhaust with a black Kerker one

A few questions. Do I need to use the shims? Doesn't look like they will fit - but seems a bit off to use nothing. I have the little metal crush gaskets. But I am talking about the little half circle shim thingies that fell out when I removed the stock exhaust.

Also - I had a broken exhaust lug bolt. So I removed them and ordered new ones. The new ones are 8mm in diameter. The old ones are 6. What gives with that? I think the ones I removed were 6x36 but all sites think they should be line 8x54 or something like that. Any ideas?

"All the sites say 8 x 54 or something like that." Really, what sites say that?? You may want to delete them from your Favorites list and use Kawasaki.com when researching parts (see diagram below). The studs are still an "Active" Kawasaki part, so any online or local dealer can order them for you. Partzilla lists them at $2.16 each (see link).

Those "shims" you asked about are what hold the header pipes against the cylinder head. Without those there's nothing to hold the pipes on the engine. Be sure to hold onto the old ones because sometimes the new ones that come with aftermarket exhaust systems are the wrong length. Ed

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationIn general the Big bikes have 8 mm exhaust studs. The 750-4s' are 6 mm.

If you have to use the half-moon exhaust collars for the installation & the header tips are flared, you may need longer half-moons. The stock exhaust system has flanges welded to the tips, so the half-moons are short. Here's a V&H system that illustrates what I'm talking about.
