For some time I noticed a vibration developing while in gear going down the road. At first I thought it was the chain binding up or not tensioned properly. Inspected readjusted still there, so I then pull the front cover thinking it was the front sprocket coming loose....nope.

While going down the freeway the vibration got worse so I pulled off to the side. It went from barely noticeable, maybe I'm imagining a problem to "Yep, I'm SCREWED". When I let out the clutch I lost all forward motion, as in it would not even catch a gear from a dead stop. The rear wheel never locked up..only barely noticeable while in motion, that is until the freeway ride.

Any ideas before I tear into it? It's been over a year now and I have finally gotten around to being motivated to fix it. If anybody is local to Dinuba Ca. You may remember the bike..78 Orange KZ1000, it was in the showroom at Cycle Gear for a few years.
Thanks

The first thing I would do is pull the counter sprocket cover and make sure the nut holding the sprocket didn't back off.
