MKII Cam and Ignition timing was created by hangedk
Could anyone here give me specifics about KZ1000 MKII timing? I took my bike to a mechanic but he's never worked on or even heard of the MKII.He gave me a call and told me he just couldn't get it timed right. He's an old guy and a BMW master mechanic, so I know he's not an idiot. Anyway, I'd really appreciate some detailed instructions or scans from a MKII manual on both the cam timing and ignition advance so I can either get that info from him or get the bike back and do it myself. Thanks.
Edit: Thanks for your help, everybody. You've all been awesome as usual. Got everything figured out.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationnot to be a dick.....but buy a factory manual.....it lays out the process in detail. I bought one a read front to back 10 times.
Good luck.
Good luck.

"Not to be a dick". That's like saying "No offense, but..."
So why bother saying it in the first place? That's a rhetorical question so don't bother. I just ordered one. I was just hoping that someone could help me out on here so that I could speed things along.

You don't have to time them. The ignition plate is stationary. When you get the manual just follow the procedure for adjusting the timing chain.
It wouldn't hurt to remove the ignition plate and see if the advancer moves freely.

As stated in the FSM (Factory Service Manual), the ignition timing is set by the factory and not intended to be owner-adjustable. The only servicing necessary is lubrication of the advancer weight-arm pivots.
The ignition timing may be "checked" to assure the marks are aligning as they're supposed to.
And operation of the advancer may be verified by viewing it under a strobe-type timing light, watching to see it quickly move backward and forward as rpm is varied by blipping the throttle.
Good Fortune!
