Keeping your original gearing but going down to a 17" rear will have the effect of lowering the overall gearing as if fitting a larger rear sprocket.
what size chain are you going to use 630 or 530.
Ideally you will need a 17t 630 or 19t 530 front to start then work out the rear.
The reason for going the largest size front is because you will end up with a smaller than stock rear and this can cause chain clearance issues around the swingarm pivot area with the chain running on the pivot tube.
On the earlier Z1000's the final gearing was around 2.2 to 1 and with a 17" wheel you needed 1.92 to 1 as an equivalent.

To find a rear sprocket size for a 17" that is equal or approx to your 18 do this.....

1. Measure circumference of the 18" wheel .
2. Divide that figure by the number of teeth on that wheels sprocket (say 36) and this will give you a figure equal to the distance travelled per tooth (say 1 inch )
3. Measure the circumference of the 17" wheel and divide that by that 1 inch or whatever and you end up with a figure that is equal to the number of teeth you need for the 17" wheels sprocket.

You can do the measuring on the bare rim or on the tyres it won't make much difference as long as you do the same for both.

You will usually end up with an odd fraction of a tooth , say 34.4 or something so will have to decide whether to go for a 34 or 35 tooth in that instance.

So when doing the 530 conversion you dont use the same amount of teeth as what 630 uses?

You can but the core circumference of the 530 sprockets is smaller for the same amount of teeth so the chain will run closer to the swingarm and possibly cause clearance issues with the chain rubbing on the swingarm pivot.

It's less likely on the original spindly steel tube swingarms but most conversions accompany an upgrade to 17" wheels and a modern ally swingarm which is usually fatter in that area.

If it's a straight 630 to 530 swap only, just remember to keep the same gear ratio regardless of the amount of teeth , so for example - 15-30, 16-32, 17-34 or 18-36, etc are all the same ratio and will produce the same speeds and acceleration.
