kz 1000 Cylinder head temps??? was created by Powerstroke_fan
So i finally got a temperature gauge for my bike. It is just a tto gauge. You take off your crush washer on your spark plug and it goes on there. So its really only telling head temperature. Anyway the question is, Whats the hottest These motors should handle before i start shutting it down? The hottest it got was around 410. But mainly likes to stay around 350 to 380.but when you come up to a stop sign or putt around real slow it will heat up. I know there air cooled motors and i dont allow it to sit and idle, just at stop lights only and i dont like doing that very much on really hot days.

We used the same type of temp gauge on flat head briggs when we raced. most builders liked 375 max I preferred 405-410, it produced more power but, you didn't have time to tweak the carb if it started making more heat where as 375 you did.
I'd say your fine.

You've just added one more thing to worry about, distract your attention from the road and more weight too.
I've screwed the nuts off these motors and had them stinking hot with no issues.
Take it off and just RIDE, unless of course you want to observe what temp the motor was when you ran into the back of that truck  .

Ya i dont really watch it very often. I just wanted to be able to see how hot it was while sitting in traffic. I also wanted to be able to see if it gets to hot and i need to shut it down. I just got alot of money in this bike now, so i gotta have some form of insurance lol. So whats the max i should let it get then? As i took it les said 410 is ok. Iam not really worried about it overheating when riding normal. I wouldnt worry about it if it wasnt such a big motor.
