Stuck Clutch

Stuck Clutch was created by Spectre1982
I'm working on the KZ200. The engine covers have been off during the rebuild and the clutch basket is exposed. When I pull the clutch lever in, I can see it expand but all the plates stay stuck together. If it's in first and I pull the clutch, try to spin the wheel, it stays locked. I can separate the plates by hand and the wheel will spin. Once I let the clutch loose it locks back up tight. Do I need to take it apart to oil it or will it loosen up and work correctly once it's put back together and bathed in oil again?

I had the same problem. Took it apart and oiled the friction and steel plates and it worked fine. Sat for 8 months during my build and it was locked up again. Took it for a spin by running with the bike and dropping it in gear. After about 5 minutes the clutch freed itself, probably due to warming up the clutch parts and oil.

I oiled it up as well as I can while it's still installed. Already a bit better. I'm sure it will be fine once it gets put back in service. Thanks for the reassurance, Haybus.

If the plates are stuck next time you are going for a ride leave the engine OFF, put the tranny is 1st gear, pull in the clutch, and rock the bike forward and backward on the pavement. The plates should free up. Ed
