Okay so not too long ago my bike wouldn't start and I traced it to the starter clutch. I took it out and have been kicking it ever since. Now that I am tuning, It is a real pain to kick the bike over. Especially when it tries to kick me back! :P So I want to figure out what Causes starter clutches to go bad? I looked and looked and I didn't see any cracks or anything wrong with my starter clutch when I took it out. What should I be looking for? I would hate to put it all back in just to figure out that its still failing.

The housing cracks sometimes. The rollers wear, the springs can get bad. The 750 twins are notorious for failed starter clutches but mine never has (knock wood). You can probably find a good used one online for under $100.

I know they have rebuild kits for around $30 considering my housing isn't cranked. Has anyone had a starter clutch act up and then work fine. Throw some magic elbow grease on it or something
