Hone and valve removal tool. was created by magruder13
I've been helping my buddy do a top end rebuild on his bike. A few of his cylinders looked pretty bad, looks like the bike sat for a while and left some buildup on the inside of the cylinder in the pattern of a piston. Well I want to hone it out, but I don't have the tool. I found this one on harbor freight: www.harborfreight.com/4-inch-engine-cylinder-hone-97164.html Not sure if anyone has any experience with it or not. If I hone it out, do I need to put different rings in? He's had some problems with blow by, I'm hoping this fixes it.

I also wanted to remove the valves and look them over. Do I need the special tool for it? Where do I get it? Thanks!

The engine has to be disassembled to do a proper honing job on the cylinder walls. You should just check the compression first before tearing the engine apart. It may just need a valve adjustment. This takes some doing if you are not familiar with it. Carbon build up on top of the piston is normal and can be removed chemically. It looks like you are going into the repair blindly. Get a Kawasaki Service Manual for that bike and go from there. Don't make it any harder than it is.
