Got a brand new black kerker for my z1r.
I want to take the inerds out and run with just the end cap on.
I know you have to unscrew the end cap and pop it out to take the packing out, bit it seems hard to get off. Dontwant to scratch it being brand new and all.
What's an easy way? Stick something in the other end and push it out? There is more stuff in there than just the packing. I did it on my Vance and Hines. Been 5 years ago andi think it just had packing in it.
Thanks
Aaron

Try a strap wrench(the kind with a fabric strap) to turn the cap & then maybe a large wooden dowel and hammer to pop the cap off with. Are you sure no rivets are on the outside?

Thanks. if i cant get it i will call kerker for suggestions.
I put a wooden broom handle in the other end and pounded it on the concrete to no avail. I cant pull on the cap for fear of screwing it up.
There are rivets attached to the kerker badge. but surely it is just there to fasten the badge to pipe.

G'day Aaron, I believe that the removal of the baffle requires the removal of the Kerker badge - think there's maybe a screw/rivet underneath it, or the rivets also secure the baffle. Carefully drill out the rivets and you'll discover the truth.

Remove the tail pipe...remove the screw that holds the baffle...you will notice that the original baffle/insert sticks out the bottom of the pipe.
Just hit the old baffle out from the front of the pipe ,using a piece of wood and a FBH.

Alternately ,just bang the tail pipe on the ground and the baffle will pop out.

No need to remove the rivets from the Kerker name plate.
Thoroughly recommend the 2" Kerker comp baffle.

If its too loud your too old. ;)

It has been awhile since I took out the baffle but there is nothing holding it in other than the screw. The end cap is a tight fit when it is installed. But you will be better off leaving it in for the back-pressure needed to close those valves. To each its own, I took mine out and could not deal with the loud sound. Good luck, I know how you feel regarding scratches.

Got it guys, thanks. Love it. Had to make a bracket to mount it to the exhaust mount. Looks real good. Left the baffle and end cap in it. Just took out the packing. I'm firing I it up for the first time since rebuild tomorrow. Can't wait.
Hoping to have her ready for moto go weekend in Indy. 2 weeks away.
