My experience -- Requires over three but less than 4 quarts to fill Z1 and KZ900, even after complete drainage and a new oil filter.kenfowler123 wrote: I am a bit confused, my engine case says to put in 4 quarts of oil; however, the oil window and according to my manual it says to keep the oil levels between the lines in the window. When using the window method, you can only put in about 3 quarts. Whats up with that, I dont want to have too little oil or too much.
Would be governed by the oil level lines as indicated on the sight glass (bike balanced upright).
Z1 Owner's Manual says about 3½ quarts (3.5 litres) filled to the upper line on the gauge, and cautions against over-filling.
Per conversion tables:
3.5 quarts = 3.3 (3.31224) liters;
3.7 (3.69841) quarts = 3.5 liters.
With a new filter, would run the engine for a few minutes (saturate the filter), let sit un-running for a few minutes (allowing the oil level to stabilize), then re-check the site glass level, and add additional oil as might be required to reach the upper line on the gauge.
Good Fortune!

Can you post a picture of the lettering on that engine case? I'd like to add it to my bike pic folder. Thanks, Ed
