KZ 1000 Cylinder rubber plugs...

I have the bike apart and i for to put the 4 rubber plugs that go on the bottom of the cylinder. Well the base gasket leaked oil pretty good. So tore it down yesterday. I got it mostly cleaned up and will finish it this evening. Then just waiting on parts lol. The question i have is the 4 rubber plugs dont fit snug in the holes. They will fall right down in the holes. I looked at some nos ones but thats all i could find. I wanted new ones. Do they need replaced? Or just gasket maker them in? Thanks, Eric

I would get new ones just as a precaution. It would be a shame to need to tear the engine down again if they cause a problem. They are still and "Active" Kawasaki part, so any local or online dealer can get them. Partzilla lists them at $2.68 each. Ed

Hate to tell ya but at 1327 and not dry blocked, your gonna leak a little anyway, or I should say I have never seen one that didn't that was really ridden. My cases are bored for 1260 and it weeps oil, when on boost it leaks a little more.

Ya would like to but its just more cash i dont wanna spend lol. But i will buy new plugs. I just wanna get the oil leak stopped. Some people say that it will leak no matter what and some say it wont. I dunno what the truth is yet. But i just would like to keep the stock look. I mean some people will notice stuff right off the bat and know i got a little work done, but for the most part people have no idea till its to late lol. That and i dont want the lines hanging out there and i would have to get a custom oil cooler/dry block/ oil pressure sensor take offs. So i really wanted to just get it to seal up. Hows your bike turning out lush?

I think you may be talking about the rubber plugs that fit in the bottom fins. As I understand they are there for the purposes of vibration of fins at certain harmonics.... They can be discarded!

I have read over on Dragbike.com where they bore the stud holes that oil travels in and insert thin tubing .From what I understand is the oil travels down the studs, leaks there. There is mention of it in the following link. Can't find the articlae as I lost my log in info. A wealth of info on our motors ob=ver there.
