engine cleaning was created by kamakazie1000
Greetings Member Of The Kzrider Community!
So I Got My Cases Split Yesterday And Am Going To Start The Cleaning Process. I'm Going To Start With The Cases Themselve, Then The Internals. What Does Everyon Use For Cleaning? I Was Planning On Soaking Them In Mineral Spirits Followed By A Vigorous Attack By Wire Brush And Elbow Grease, Howeve I Thought I Would Defer To The Expertis Of The Kzrider Gurus BeforeI Start.
Any Advice, Comments, Concerns Would Be Greatly Appreciated.
Thanks,
John.

Already had this discussion, he's using a mobile browser that does that automatically.

It do make it difficult to read though, it's like a whole crapload of single word sentences

Thanks old man rock! I'll be picking up some simple green here promptly. Could you maybe elaborate a bit on the cleaning polishing procedures you used? I was going to have everything blasted and painted but if i can get results like that, i'll just do it myself!
regards,
J.H.C

I'll be damned, and I've been rubbing cases with sandpaper till my fingertips became raw.
Wish I'd seen this sooner
I need to find those brushes. I haven't seen them in any of the stores here and I've been in the one's OMR listed. I'm sure I can find them on line though.

Does anyone know if these nylon wire brushes are safe on all metal, such as the exhaust pipes? I just tried them out with some simple green and they really do work great. The fine brush easily removed bluing from the pipes that has been on there since I got the bike. And it takes surface rust off like it's just dirt. Anyway, just wanted to make sure they were safe for the exhaust pipes. Thanks.

Tampico brushes are another option - they're made from natural fibers. I think they're often used for cleaning spoked wheels but are also good for engines. The long thin brushes can reach between the fins.
