Z1 Heavy Duty Valve Spring Question was created by Gman
Hi all, I'm looking for some opinions from experts. I have a project '74 Z1 900 with a 1015 10.25 comp kit and stock cams. I installed new APE HD valve springs when I was going through the head, thinking that I would install some bigger cams in the future. Just recently I bought some Cam Motion Z2 cams with .385 lift. Is it over-kill to run the HD springs with these cams or should I put the stock springs back in? Any negative impact to using them? Thanks.

The VS900K springs are fine for those cams. I've installed dozens of sets of them with drop in cams.
ALWAYS check for lobe contact in the tappet bores REGARDLESS of the fact that the cams should be drop in grind. I've seen drop in's NOT drop in without a little massaging. Look not only at the lobe clearance in the tappet bores but also the sprocket boss clearance in the cam chain tunnel area. I had some Web cams that rubbed in that area.
