Clutch Replacemnent Due? was created by nivlac
Trying to break the bolt on the alternator rotor. My engine turns over. Holding the brake the engine still turns. Is my clutch shot? It seems to shift well w/o slipping. Although I'm not inclined to do any hole shots, just a little hammer on through the gears and like I say it doesn't seem to be slipping. I think it is adjusted up to par. Where should I look, or do I not have an option besides replacement?

how would holding the brake keep the engine from turning over?

If the transmission is in gear the engine will try to turn the drive chain. Holding the rear brake or blocking the wheel from turning should prevent the engine from turning over. Ed

Has the counter-shaft sprocket come loose?

If the counter shaft is the gear assembly between the starter and the larger gear behind the rotor, then yes. This has been the original problem it kept working its way from the position that it should be in and would ultimately not mesh correctly when the starter was engaged. I was told that my starter clutch was in question. It seemed like such an easy fix and relatively cheap I thought why not? But yes if that is the counter shaft sprocket it is currently off the assembly.
