79 KZ650 4-1 vs. 4-2 Exhaust sound?

Hi. I have a 79 KZ650 C3. It's an awesome bike and I love it. When I bought it, it had a Kerker 4-1 exhaust on it and that's what I'm still running today. I have been curious about replacing that with a stock (or similar) 4-2 exhaust. Really, my only reason for considering doing this is the sound. I feel like the Kerker gives it more of a "sport bike sound" and I would like for it to have more of a "cruiser sound". What I mean by that is that I would like it to be a little more low with a little more rumble instead of having a higher sound with a little more whine to it. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea whether changing out the exhaust would make that kind of a difference. I was hoping some of you out there might have some knowledge in this area. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The stock exhaust will make it a little quieter than the Kerker, but not a deeper tone. Ed

If you wanted a cruiser, you should have bought one. ;)
Your KZ650 sounds much more like a sport bike because it IS much more like a sport bike.
The purpose of the Kerker is to increase power output, the sound is merely a byproduct.

I know you're kind of joking there, but seriously, something as simple as looking for advice about a change in the sound depending on the type of exhaust really shouldn't evoke the proverbial "if you wanted a ____, then you should have bought a ____" reply. I mean, there are hundreds of posts on here talking about custom exhausts - brands, sizes, 4-1, 4-2, etc. And there are even more showing all different levels of customization.

I know what bike I own, and I know what it is and I like it. I don't think that should preclude me for looking to tweak something like the exhaust sound. I might not be able to have it all, but I can try. :)

P.S. - If you look at the video clip here, according to Kawasaki themselves, the KZ650 WAS meant to be a cruiser just as much as it was meant to be a sport bike.

The KZ650 engine will never produce a V-Twin sound no matter what exhaust you put on.

Owning a Kerker 4-1 myself, I agree that it sounds like a sport bike, which is what I want. If you want a more muted sound, a 4-2 is what you should seek.
There are aftermarket 4-2 pipes that will yield more of the tone that you wish, and selling the Kerker should partially offset the cost of the new exhaust.
I have no experience in these aftermarket pipes, but perhaps you can find someone who is willing to trade their 4-2 pipes for your Kerker. Perhaps even a stock exhaust, which would be a bit rare these days.
Best of luck.
