Hi List;
I have recently acquired a 1982 KZ250. It's in mint original condition with only 17000km (10500 miles)on it. The bike runes great. My problem is that I have a small oil leak where the tach cable enters the head. I tried to unscrew the tach cable like it says in the service manual but it will not budge. It will nor screw out or in. Am I missing something? The manual states to just unscrew it with a pair of pliers.

Help!!

It should just unscrew; be sure to turn it counter-clockwise. The seal should be replaced to stop the leak, and the parts are still available. If you cannot get it to unscrew soak it for a couple days with Kroil penetrating oil; that should break the bond. Ed

Sounds like a cool little bike.
How about just ordering the seals and a new cable for it?

Thanks - I figured so. I'll start soaking it in Deep Creep and see if it lats go.

Update - Well I still can't get the tach cable to budge. I've been giving it a soak in Deep Creep (SeaFoam) every couple of days but I can't get it to move. The good news though is that the leak has stopped. I wonder if the Deep Creep caused the seals to swell enough to stop the leak. I'll keep at it because I'd really like to replace the old cable anyway.
