Oil leak - Front of engine, 1982 Spectre was created by mcguest12
I have found an oil leak on the front of my engine. Located behind the headers, halfway down the cylinder block.

First question, what is this? Second Question, Is it just a gasket or O ring that would cause the leak.

All help will be great.

Sounds like the connection for your tachometer cable is leaking maybe. Probably check that first. Tighten or possibly replace o-ring.

If not already done, would check for loose nut on exhaust clamps.

Pics?

Good Fortune! :)

More then likely its a rubber seal located between your cylinder block and head. I dont know why but those things dry out like nobodys business. Your have to take the head off and put a new head gasket and o rings if thats your problem,

+1 on the head gasket. Mine was doing the same thing until I got a gasket set. I have an '82 and mine has an electronic tach. There is no tach cable.

Head gaskets were a common problem on 750's, even when they were new. We did lots of them under warranty.

Tach Drives [which your bike should't have] don't generally leak by the O Ring. The seal inside the tach drive wears out from the shaft spinning. In such situations you replace the seal and the outer O Ring.
