Crankcase Breather Filter
01 Jun 2013 00:50
Hey everyone. I have a 1981 KZ550LTD. The previous owner replaced the air filter with pods and did not attach a crankcase breather filter. I ordered one from Z1 because it said it was universal.

.This was probably a noob mistake because it arrived and it's the wrong size. Does anyone know what the right size filter for an 81 KZ550 LTD is?
Thanks
Nick

You don't necessarily have to run a filter- I've seen a few guys on here take large diameter clear tube, put it on, and run it in a cane shape down the side of the frame between the swinger. OMR has some nice pictures on his build.

I'm not familiar with the 550 but is there a large nipple on the crankcase where the breather is to fit ? If so then you just need a short piece of fuel type tubing to go from the nipple to the stem of the a breather filter you bought. That plus a couple of hose clips.
I dont believe these come in different sizes

 Not sure about the 550, but my 1100-A2 breather cover vent-hole was drilled out to accommodate the 1/2"+/- tube which I wanted to friction-fit inside. It worked better than using a tube splice, as it keeps residual (breathed) oil inside the cover.
