Springs - Valve and Clutch was created by RobK
Anyone know how to tell the difference between clutch springs and (interior) valve springs? I bought all these parts and there were springs everywhere, some new, most used, but I'd like to be able to figure out what is what.

Specifically the ones I'm curious about are at the front (bottom) of the pic below. If there is a difference in dimension, it seems slight.

Many thanks,

Might be tough - I used the inner valve springs as beafier clutch springs - they are very close in size.

the red ones in your pic look to be clutch springs?..... the only real way to tell is check them at installed height with a valve spring pressure tester........ and check pressure in compressed (clutch pulled ) height.....and coil bind.......not every one has access to one of these... I have my own

Eh? I think I paid less than $30 for mine, via eBay (NOS). It's the free standing one that does not require a vise, but does require a 3/8" torque wrench (old style, CRS in effect at the moment).

Does a fine job, and fast.

This ones a little more than I paid, but identical.

That all seems fine and good, I have had some success putting the bathroom scale on the drill press, measuring spring height and comparing to force/pressure on the scale. Works for me! Paul
