Hello everyone

I have a 1981 KZ550 LTD thats not currently running. While working on it I noticed that the bike is having problems shifting from neutral to first gear. It will shift fine from first to neutral but when I shift from neutral to first the bike clicks like it has shifted but it remains in neutral. After a minute of jiggling the gear shifter up and down it will finally click into first gear. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone has an idea of what might be causing this.

Motorcycles in general tend to not be very fond of running through the gears without moving.

Very true. Put your bike on the center stand. Rotate the rear wheel with your hand and try to put it in gear at the same time. It should lock in pretty easy.

He'll I can't shift up or down from neutral when it's not running and not moving on my bike.
