KZ piston sleeve combo was created by peavylotus
Hey all, its been a while but I am pleased to say that the KZ hasnt been recycled or sold. I decided that I will fix her up right. Disassemble and take my time on the bike and all that other good stuff. But I come to you with my delema.

I need pistons and sleeves or pistons and a bore. I see some sweet deals on some combos but I wanted to know what wiggle room there is with these motors as far as campatibility.

Mine is a KZ 1000 B4 LTD

Can you guide me in the right direction.

I want to stay at the stock 1015cc because I had just adjusted the carbs sooooo puuurfect before she got frisky and scraped up the cylinder walls.

Any help would be appreciated, I couldn't let this bike go for some odd reason haha

Q1 - Between 1000cc and 1100cc models can you change the barrels and pistons straight over for the same model year?

Q2 - Can I put stock police bike barrels from the newer KZ's or older KZ's. Im looking for a straight swap

Hi there nice to hear from you....good on you for deciding to keep and fix her up. I am not sure if you can use police pistons as they are from J motors and swapping them into an older KZ block is pretty involved (ie. money) I think I may have a decent set of 1015 barrels that will fit your bike lurking about, I'll know by tomorrow and shipping wont be an issue as I am just across the water from you. :)

What makes you think you need new pisons? Is the motor apart?

The J model and 1100 stuff will not bolt to your engine.

If i was you and you do need new pistons. I would think about at least stepping up to a 1075 or so. You will have more power and the bike will still be realiable.

You want a straight swap so all barrels and pistons from any KICKSTART equipped model engine will bolt straight on.
That means all 903 and 1015cc blocks.
Basically anything from a Z1/Z900 up to 1000A, Z1R, MK2 and ST1000.
As long as it's from a kicker engine it will fit.

I definately need new pistons, they are scraped badly and the cylinders have to be bored up to use them again. Staying true to 1015 means I save money and time adjusting my carbs.

Thanks for the info 'zed1015' thats exactly what I was looking for.

Also I am sending you a PM on whether you have a good set 'bluzbike'.

I wouldnt worry about adjusting the carbs. Thats just a fact of life. Its something you need to get used to doing. And usally from my past experince. When you take the carbs off and move them around and do motor work. I.e. change parts as pistons and rings some carb adjustment will be required anyway.

589 is not a bad price on that combo kit. That's the price I find the pistons around, without the sweet clean up and honing.

I talked to a guy with a CB café and he told me about a machinist who does side work for a fair price so the option of boring up is in my reach.

I am in the market for pistons, I want a full rebuild on this motor!

Im with OMR on this.
For a set of MTC 1075 pistons , fitted to fresh bore job and rings setup for you to drop in Joe cant be beat for price and quality. I trusted him with my piston work and have been very pleased. Carbs will be a minor job to adjust
Have fun no matter what path you choose

How long does it usually take him to get the piston job done?

Seems like he turned them around in under a week. Go on his web site , then e mail Joe ( He does almost all his communication by e mail ). He was very prompt and helpful and puts everything in writing. I would use him again with no hesitation.
