Valve Shims was created by grumpy56
Does anyone know if the valve shims on a J motor are hardened or treated in a manner that would cause an issue if I precision ground the thickness just a bit? Thanks.

This is what happens when you remove the hard surface of a shim and put it in the wrong way up...
I pulled this one out of a bike I bought. The shim said 2.65mm on the back, read 2.50mm on the edge, but read under 2.00mm in the center. The cam lobe was toast - down over 1/10th of an inch...

Last parts bike I bought the PO tried just removing the shims. That didnt work out too well, ruined the cam, bent the valves etc. Fortunetly I parts on hand to fix it
