I guess if you're in a situation where you are away from the bike for extended periods a battery tender would be nice to have, but I've never used a battery tender. In riding season I ride the bike at least once a week or so. In the winter I start the bike and run it for about fifteen minutes at least once every 2 weeks. This not only keeps the battery fresh it also prevents stale gas from clogging the carbs and keeps oil on the cylinder walls. Ed
