1981 KZ1100A Shaft w/ Vetter Fairing Exhaust Fit

Hi.

I just picked up this rig:



I'm looking for a 4 into 1 complete exhaust in all chrome to fit.

Getting around the bags seems to be an issue.

Figured someone here might have some suggestions.

I want to be able to get to the filter, drain plug, and retain the center stand.

Keep the head pipes and just replace the mufflers with some shorter turnouts.

Doh, I'm hoping to get a tuned header on there too.

I've got a '78 LTD with the same bags. By reworking the bag bracket I could raise them at least 3". You should be able to do the same. Or put a Mac 4 into 2 turnout exhaust on it.

This is how a V&H 13009-J mounted to my bike. V&H said it wouldn't work, but I had to try it anyway.
Had a couple issues, but it does mount to the head correctly.

I ended up ordering a Mac 4 into 1 Canister system.

Just lining it up seems like it's a neat fit.

All access points are kept as well as the center stand.

Was not able to get the header in chrome so I sent it of to get it ceramic coated.

The canister is chrome though.

Once I get it on I'll post a picture.

Next step is a to check the valves and order some shims if necessary.

Then get some new bearings in the steering.

Shoot, I need to get some air filter pods too and think about jetting this unit.

Just got the header back from Jet Hot.

I am very interested to know how well this Mac header system integrates with the center-stand, and how accessible the oil filter is, once you have it installed.
The V&H 13009-J (for KZ1000-J) came with a metal bracket (for the left side) to serve as a stow-stop for the center-stand, since the muffler is not there to catch it. It works well (after shortening about an inch), considering the design application was not intended for the 1100-A to begin with. The V&H tech was helpful though, when stating there was no possibility the header would work on my bike.
